Got a good job out of college, then bought my first NEW car!

I had been looking forward to getting a brand-new car, and that time finally came when I started my first professional job. I didn't have a lot of money, and it cost about $13,000. I consciously bought American, and Saturn was supposed to be GM's "import killer". This car was pretty solid, moved well and looked sporty. It was NOT quite up to Japanese car standards, it had a couple annoying rattles. However, overall, I was very happy with this Saturn Couple. I had it for about 9 years, a good run. It was still in good shape when I sold it.

First day with my first NEW car

Buddy Ted with my new Saturn SC

Curves like a woman! (That's what a friend said)

Vanilla Ice? No, just me trying to look cool...

Great car, great memories.

No Negotiation Needed
One of the attractions of the Saturn for me was the "no haggle" policy. I'm not the world's greatest negotiator, I just wanted to feel like I got a decent deal, no different than anyone else. I think the final price was $13 or $14k. I don't think you can find anything in the price range nowadays (2024), but it was pretty affordable then.
We were young. We went downtown. We partied. Buddy got sick in my NEW car!
Sooo... I was a pretty light drinker when I was young, so I was often the designated drive. One weekend night, me and two of my buddies headed downtown to live it up. One of the buddies was known to, uh, "overindulge", but we all went out together anyway. Not surprisingly, the overindulging buddy overindulged... It was hard to get him to leave the bar, but we did (it was probably pretty late...) So, we finally get him to the car... where he promptly lets loose in my back seat! My brand new car! Ugh. Such is the life of the young.
